چکیده
This article discusses the features of the structural-functional organization of the visual distance perception which, in contrast to other distant sensory systems, has not only afferent but also efferent part--the frontal visual field and, smooth and stripy muscles of the eye which accordingly support the visual function. The increasing importance of the efferent component of the visual system in the present conditions of real and virtual movements of visual objects is shown. The case of photosensitivity in epilepsy proves the fact that the efferent component of the visual system can react in a protective way to the rhythmic photostimulation.

Subdural electrode recording of generalized photoepileptic responses
We evaluated the spatiotemporal distribution of photic driving (PDR), photoparoxysmal (PPR), and photoconvulsive (PCR) responses recorded by intracranial electrodes (ic-EEG) in a patient with generalized photosensitivity and right frontal lobe cortical dysplasia. Intermittent light stimulation (ILS) was performed thirteen times in nine days. Cortical responses to ILS recorded by ic-EEG were rev...
متن کاملJeavons syndrome as an occipital cortex initiated generalized epilepsy: Further evidence from a patient with a photic-induced occipital seizure
Jeavons syndrome (JS) is characterized by the triad of eyelid myoclonia with or without absences, eye closure-induced generalized paroxysms and photosensitivity. Occasional generalized tonic–clonic seizures may also occur. Despite having been claimed as a distinct entity among the IGEs by several authors, its inclusion as an epilepsy syndrome in the ILAE classifications is still a matter of deb...
متن کاملAbnormal cortical thickness connectivity persists in childhood absence epilepsy
OBJECTIVE Childhood absence epilepsy (CAE) is a childhood-onset generalized epilepsy. Recent fMRI studies have suggested that frontal cortex activity occurs before thalamic involvement in epileptic discharges suggesting that frontal cortex may play an important role in childhood absence seizures. Neurocognitive deficits can persist after resolution of the epilepsy. We investigate whether struct...
متن کاملMystery case: eyelid myoclonia with absences in an adult patient.
A 28-year-old man presented to the epilepsy monitoring unit (EMU) with frequent “eye fluttering” episodes since he was 3 years old (video on the Neurology® Web site at www.neurology.org). He was diagnosed with epilepsy as a teenager after he developed generalized convulsions at age 12. His convulsions were wellcontrolled with antiepileptic drug therapy. His neurologic examination was normal. Hi...
متن کاملSexual Dimorphism in Surface Anatomical Parameters of Human Cerebral Cortex in Different Lebes in Normal and Neurodegenerative Subjects: a Stereological and Macroscopical Study
Purpose: This study sought to determine sex differences in surface anatomical parameters (thickness and surface areas) of human cerebral cortex in different lobes of the left hemisphere in normal right-handed subjects and right-handed subjects suffering from Alzheimer and Parkinson's diseases. Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional descriptive study was performed on 72 normal human brains...
